As an artist, I am fascinated by the contrasting visual representations of the body and gestures between two worlds. Growing up in Iran, I was not exposed to the advertisements that are commonplace in Europe, and it was upon my arrival in Europe two years ago that I realized the stark differences between the two worlds. The killing of Mahsa Amini only deepened my interest in the differences between these two worlds, and as I followed the news on Instagram, I became increasingly intrigued by the contrast between the two worlds. This project is an exploration of this contrast, focusing specifically on the body and gestures as depicted in screenshots of friends’ stories and advertisements on Instagram.
